Violet Ignace

  • Registered Midwife

Violet is an Indigenous midwife who uses she/her pronouns. She is delighted to be a part of the South Community Birth Program. Violet is from North Spirit Lake First Nation. She is grateful to be a guest on Xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and Səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nation’s homelands. She believes pregnancy, birth and parenthood are such special times, and witnessing is a true honour.

She went to UBC and completed her Bachelor of Midwifery, Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a Master of Science in Nursing.

She is passionate about evidence-based care. While completing her nursing degrees, she was a researcher working with Indigenous community-based participatory research. Her topics of interest were Indigenous data sovereignty and Indigenous wellness systems.

Midwifery has deepened her appreciation for physiology and trauma informed-care. Violet is committed to reproductive justice, health equity and care that respects client informed choices.

In her free time, she loves to learn about animals and plants of the Pacific Northwest. She enjoys hiking, sharing meals, hot yoga and beading (making earrings mostly).

She looks forward to sharing this special time in your life with you, and your growing family. She is thankful for trusting her with your care.
